Newton Alum, Penn State Wrestler and Coach Inducted into National HOF
The National Wrestling Hall of Fame announced on Monday that the Class of 2019 will include Newton's Rich Lorenzo.
Lorenzo was a state finalist for Newton in 1964 and an All-American for Penn State in 1968.
He went onto to become the head coach of Penn State from 1978 to 1992.
During this time, Penn State had 53 All-Americans, won five team national championships, and went 188-64-9.
He was also integral in forming the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club, a freestyle club which has churned out numerous world and Olympic team members, according to Jake Aferiat of The Daily Collegian.
The Hall of Fame Board of Governors approved the selections at its meeting in Kansas City on Oct. 24. The induction ceremony will be held at the 43rd Annual Honors Weekend on May 31-June 1, 2019 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. For more information on Honors Weekend, please telephone (405) 377-5243.
